What’s On Your Bucket List?

Have you ever made a bucket list? If so, I’d so love to hear what you put on it! One thing I’ve always wanted to do is sky dive, but I’ve yet to! In 2017, I made a Retirement Bucket List. Here’s a few items on that list:

-swim with manatees, dolphins, and turtles

-visit beaches that have lots of amazing shells in abundance

-visit places near by our city here in Tennessee that we’ve not seen

-travel to the last 3 states across our nation that I have not visited: West Virginia, Delaware and Connecticut. Can I just say, I traveled A LOT while I was serving women’s leaders through my role at LifeWay. That included some international trips as well. I recently figured out I’ve been in about 40 places outside the US, and I had no idea! Eventually maybe I’ll plan a trip East to get those last 3 states off my bucket list!

One item is getting checked off this summer: a nostalgic trip back to Texas to visit where we each grew up (Houston for me, Jasper for my husband), the college in Nacogdoches where we met and fell in love, Galveston where we got stuck in the sand at Crystal Beach when we were dating, West Texas where my parents grew up and are buried, East Texas where my husband’s parents are buried, Tyler where we lived for about 21 years and where we became parents, raised our girls, and where I grew up spiritually and stumbled into a staff position at our church just to name a few! It’s also that church office where I got a call from LifeWay (then the Baptist Sunday School Board) asking me to consider the women’s ministry specialist position that was just created.

I wonder if you have a spiritual bucket list? I can’t say I’ve written this out in detail, but my main goal is to reflect what Paul is recorded saying in Acts 20.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians that training for a race includes discipline. We have to be intentional to grow deeper and stay strong to finish our race well!

Finally, read this passage in Hebrews about how we finish our race on earth and run hard across the finish line!

Paul told Timothy how he has run this race for Jesus in 2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

That’s life’s final and greatest bucket list item I want to check off one day!
