A New Year…And?

I just reflected on where my thoughts and heart were this time last year. Here was my new years post then, What’s Ahead. Now I’m looking into 2022 and wondering again what this year will bring.

We cannot predict this new year anymore than we could 2021. We aren’t allowed perfect predictions of the future. We have no idea the wonderful experiences we will have, nor the pains and losses. We can make plans, we can dream and pray, but only the Lord sees every day of 2022 completely.

So, what do we do? Simply put, yet so profound, is that we trust the sovereignty of The One who does know.

The One who Moses spoke about when he was about to pass the baton to Joshua to take Israel into Canaan:

The LORD is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

The One who said to Joshua:

The LORD is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”

Joshua 1:9b

The One Who spoke through an angel to Gideon when He gave him a big task:

Then the Angel of the LORD appeared to him and said: “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior”…The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have…Am I not sending you?”…“But I will be with you,” the LORD said to him. “

Judges 6:12-16

The One who promises us He is Jehovah Jireh, our provider, as we read in Peter’s words:

His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3

And as Paul tells us of the One who:

…is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8

This is the only way we will thrive in the year ahead…knowing the One who is Sovereign KNOWS every second of 2022, and how we will walk through it. This is where our peace comes from. My prayer this year is to trust His sovereignty, experience His peace, and learn to use His wisdom every day.

I want to know this Sovereign better this time next year than I do as I write this.

This is my prayer for you as well.
