Our Gifts, God’s Purpose, and the Echoes of Samson

What are your talents? Your spiritual gifts? Your unique abilities? How are you using them—and how often do you reflect on whether you’re using them to serve the Lord to the best of your ability?

I’ve been asking myself the same question.

While reading the story of Samson in Judges 13–16 this week, I was reminded of how God entrusts each of us with gifts for a purpose. Samson was given extraordinary strength and a calling to use that gift for God’s glory. Yet, he misused it. He revealed the secret of his strength to someone who betrayed him, and in that moment, the gift was lost.

Like Samson, we can also misuse the gifts God has given us. Or, like the servant in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25, we might choose to bury our abilities out of fear, insecurity, or complacency. In doing so, we risk losing the very things God entrusted to us for a purpose.

Sometimes we misuse our gifts for personal gain, recognition, or even to harm rather than help. We take credit instead of giving God the glory. We allow pride, fear, or comfort to silence the calling we’ve been given.

But what if we chose differently?

What if we faithfully stewarded every skill, every opportunity, every moment—using them not for ourselves, but to honor the One who gave them?

Let us commit to using our gifts to serve the Lord wholeheartedly—with our talents, our resources, and our time.

So I ask again—what are you doing today with what the Lord has given you?
