Morning Rhythms
How do you start your day with the Lord? There are many ways to get focused: devotional reading, a chapter a day through a book of the Bible, listening to the Bible audibly, following a Bible reading plan. The point is to have a plan, even if it varies throughout the week.
This is what my time looks like (I am memorizing these scriptures) as I focus.
Worship:
I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:1-2
Satisfy us in the morning with your faithful love that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14
God is the blessed controller of all things. 1 Timothy 6:15 (Phillips)
Confession:
Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults. Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed from blatant rebellion. Psalm 19:12-13
Reading Scripture:
Open my eyes so that I may contemplate wondrous things from your instruction. Psalm 119:18
The LORD came, stood there, and called as before, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel responded, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10
Lament (area of study):
Because of the LORD’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness! I say, “The LORD is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in him.” The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the person who seeks him. It is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is still young. Lamentations 3:22-27
Thanksgiving:
We accept, and thank God, for what is given, not allowing the not given to spoil it. Elisabeth Elliot
Mission:
Lord, open my spiritual eyes to see the opportunities You will give me to represent You to others today. Give me an unusual sensitivity to the places where You are already working and where You’re inviting me to partner with You in the life of someone else. And give me an overflow of resources, both tangible (like money) and intangible (like time and patience) that will allow me to be the answer to someone else’s prayer. Priscilla Shirer, I Surrender All
What does your morning rhythm with the Lord look like? If you do not have an intentional plan, I encourage you to ask the Lord to show you what He desires as you meet with Him.
