Something Better

Unanswered prayer. A loss you can’t wrap your head around. A betrayal from someone you thought loved you. A life threatening health diagnosis. How do you handle this type of experience?

My answer would have to be: different ways at different times and in different life phases. Even when I struggle to hold on to hope, my goal is to find a way to trust what I know is true about the Lord’s love and faithfulness.

George Muller once said, Our heavenly Father never takes anything away from His children unless He means to give them something better.  Priscilla Shirer prays it this way: God give me what I ask for or something so much better. And Tim Kellar’s version is: God will either give us what we ask for in prayer or give us what we would have asked for if we knew everything he knows.

Job faced one loss after another until he had nothing but His faith, and this was his reaction:

Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. The LORD gives, and the LORD takes away. Blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:21

This is what he learned through that season of loss:

I had heard reports about you, but now my eyes have seen you. Job 42:5

I had heard reports about you, but now my eyes have seen you. Job 42:5

Reality is that life is filled with difficult situations and losses. Jesus knows us and loves us. He always does what is best for us and brings Him the most glory. And He is ALWAYS faithful, even if we aren’t.

if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

What situation are you facing today that you need to lay at His feet? Have you given up and stopped praying? Cry out to Him honestly, until you can walk it out in faith. He is always faithful. One day you will see that something better He has for you.
