Christmas Peace
Whenever I’m asked, “What’s your favorite name for God,” without hesitation I say, “Prince of Peace.” I praise Him for many other attributes, but this one comes to the top of my mind immediately. Perhaps it’s because I not only have peace with God eternally through Christ, but I also have experienced unexplainable peace on earth in some of my life’s toughest circumstances.
I’ve just started LifeWay Women’s The Wonder of Advent study to prepare my heart to focus more fully on Christ during the hurry of Christmas.
This week’s topic is hope. That’s the foundation for my peace, and I’m thinking it may be yours as well. I’m also reminded that we hope in something we cannot see. Romans 8:24 says, “Now in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes fo what he sees? Now if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with patience.“
In Isaiah 9, we see prophecy about a new “light” coming into the world. He would come through the line of David and His Kingdom would last forever. In this chapter of scripture we see the names that describe the coming Christ: Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Eternal Father, and my favorite, Prince of Peace.
As Israel looked toward a future light, we look back on the coming of that light when Christ was born. We experience light in our lives because He came and brought salvation to us. Now, we look toward His future second coming. Knowing prophecy has already been fulfilled in Christ, we know we can truly believe in His return.
That’s hope. That’s peace. I pray your heart will find peace in the light of Jesus this season no matter your circumstance.
