Always In A Hurry!

Scottish missionary Mary Slessor said, “Christ was never in a hurry. There was no rushing forward, no anticipating, no fretting over what might be. Each day’s duties were done as each day brought them, and the rest was left with God.”

How does that hit you? I remember reading this and thinking, why can’t I be like that? Truth: Jesus was unlike any other human since He was also God. But I think He was trying to teach us something.

Before I retired, I recall that most days, I left the office thinking I should have gotten more done. Often, I took work home in those pre-remote work days!

In retirement, I sleep more hours than I did before, and I spend more time with the Lord in the mornings. Still, I find myself trying to get long to-do lists marked off daily!

Jesus only had 3 years to accomplish all the earthly ministry He would accomplish. He never seemed to be irritated at interruptions or frustrated that He had so many people who needed ministry. He just did what was next and what was in front of Him.

He tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light when we allow Him to shoulder the majority of our concerns and assignments.

He removed the burden of the law and all its rules and said simply, “Follow Me”. Salvation is a better way to God than following rules! Simply seeking to love and obey Him and love others will lead to peace and rest.

He cares more about our life assignments than we do, and He knows how they are to be done, with appropriate rest along the way!

Lord, as I begin to hurry through this day, trying to get it all done, please help me remember how you lived life and served the Kingdom!
