Thieves of Peace
Have you ever had something of yours stolen? When I was in 3rd grade, my family came home from out of town to find our house had been robbed. It was a house with an attic that could be accessed in the garage or the house and you could go from one end to the other once inside. I made my dad get up there to look to make sure the thief wasn’t hiding there!
After that, I was never again comfortable in that house. I was glad when we moved away within a year! Not only were my silver dollars and $2 bills taken, so was my sense of security!
What is stealing your peace of mind right now? Hogging your focus? Crushing your joy? Making you feel insecure? If you cannot answer that, praise the Lord! Then think back to the last time this happened.
Once in a very hectic, pressure filled ministry season, I read something Kay Arthur said. Here are her wise words.
But how do we do that? If we want to turn away from the thief, we must look at something else. I probably don’t even have to tell you this, but primarily we counter the attacks by looking at Scripture since that is where we find encouragement to endure, walk strong, and seek and speak truth.
Find a verse that speaks to your situation. Each time you find your mind straying from truth to the thief, quote that verse. The enemy loves to keep our eyes on the issue rather than scripture, but he HATES the truth. So you do two things here: you refocus your mind and heart to truth and you tick the devil off!
Start with this verse:
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
STAND on that truth each time you start to drift toward the thing stealing your peace.
Lord, please help me not waste time on things that aren’t worth it or may never even happen! Refocus my heart to Your truth and send the enemy fleeing!
