What’s Over the Bridge?
What’s over the hill or around the bend? Does it scare you when you cannot see ahead? These two great-grand boys were excited to get over the bridge to get to the ocean. A trip to the beach is a big adventure!
What about us? Often, we think we know where life is taking us. Yet, how many of us actually land where we expected? What would we have done differently if we’d known what really lay ahead? Most of my “aheads” turned out vastly different from my careful plans.
The simple truth is, I don’t know what tomorrow brings, or even the rest of today. But fear doesn’t prevail, even when my sight fails. Here’s why:
Psalm 73:23-26 reminds us: “Yet I am always with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me up in glory. Who do I have in heaven but you? And I desire nothing on earth but you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.”
As a follower of Christ, I find profound comfort in knowing Jesus planned every day of my life before a single one began (Psalm 139:16). If He knows what’s over the bridge or around the next curve in my life’s road, I can walk in faith, even when I don’t like what I see when I arrive.
How do you face the unseen road ahead? Do you trust the One who created you, and the path He has you on, to lead you exactly where you need to be?
When you cross your next bridge, remember: you just might find a beautiful, sand-covered shore waiting for you to stroll on!
Lord, only you know what lies ahead of any of us. Only you know every breath we will take, and when we will take our last breath on earth. Thank you that we can rest in your omniscience and sovereignty, as well as love and compassion, to lead us every step of the way into eternity.
