About Chris
An Imperfect Woman in God’s Perfect Plan
Chris Adams is an author, speaker, blogger, and women’s ministry consultant. She helped pioneer women’s ministry as we know it today. Her call to women came as she served on staff as special ministries coordinator at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas coordinating women’s ministry and missions education.
Never planning to leave Texas, in 1994 the Lord called her to serve at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, Tennessee as Senior Lead Women’s Ministry Specialist. In 2008, Chris received the Career of Excellence award at LifeWay.
She taught women’s ministry courses at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s Women’s Certificate/Degree Programs, where she received her undergraduate degree in Christian Ministry from the seminary’s Leavell College.
Until her retirement from LifeWay in 2017, Chris was Executive Editor of Journey, a women’s devotional magazine. She also compiled Women Reaching Women: Beginning and Building a Growing Women’s Ministry, Transformed Lives: Taking Women’s Ministry to the Next Level, and Women Reaching Women in Crisis.
Chris has been married to her husband, Pat since 1971. They have twin daughters (and two sons in law), seven grandchildren, seven bonus grands through blended family, 4 great grandchildren, and a 7-pound Yorkie named Mo.
When she’s not consulting, speaking, and training women’s ministry leaders, you can find her reading or spending time at the beach. A self-proclaimed chocolate connoisseur, Chris is famous for her toffee.
What I Believe
The Bible: I believe the Bible is the inspired, God-breathed truth that is without error. It is true and trustworthy and points to Christ from Genesis to Revelation.
God: there is only one God who is creator of all of life. He knows all things from eternity to eternity, including every detail of my life since before I was born. He is one God in three revelations with distinct attributes: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Humans: man and woman are made in God’s image. Human beings are distinct from all other life and created with a specific gender, male or female. We are born with a bent toward sin as seen in the garden of Eden, in need of grace to have a relationship with our Father.
Salvation: we are saved only through faith in the grace of God who sent His only Son to die for us on a cross. Jesus was raised three days later and sent His Holy Spirit to dwell inside all who believe. No work I do can make me acceptable. Only what Christ has done gives me access to my God. When I turn to Him in repentance, accepting His free gift of salvation, I have entered into a life eternal that can never be taken away. I will live forever in heaven.
New Life: as salvation I was changed and began living in a new way, seeking His purpose in my life and choosing to follow His commands. Though I often fall short, His forgiveness covers my sin and my heart wants to obey more completely every day.
The Church: Christ died for the church and it is the local body of believers given the assignment to win the lost, provide community to encourage each other and grow together as a family, disciple the believers, and serve the needs of those in our community and around the world. One of my greatest joys is serving in and through my church.
