Echoes of Legacy Part 3-Compelled by Biblical Examples

We are compelled to echo our legacy not only by the needs of the world around us (see Echoes of Legacy but by the weight of Scripture itself. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul boldly invites us into this cycle of discipleship, saying, “Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1; see also 1 Corinthians 4:16 and Philippians 3:17).

Paul was far from perfect, yet he maintained a clear conscience before God. He shared his testimony—his story—repeatedly to spread the Gospel. He refused to let his past as a persecutor define him; instead, he was defined by his story of salvation.

The Great Cloud of Witnesses

In Hebrews 11, we find a “Hall of Faith”—a long list of Old Testament figures who walked imperfectly but faithfully. They trusted in a Savior they had not yet seen: Jesus, the Logos, the very Word of God.

These men and women died before their faith turned to sight because they lived on the “promise” side of the cross (Hebrews 11:39). Yet, they lived with an unshakeable belief in the coming Messiah.

This is the legacy of hope they left for us!

Like them, we are called to believe and act before we see the full picture. As Pastor Robby Gallaty says, “The volume of God’s voice is in direct proportion to His knowledge of our obedience to respond. Faith ALWAYS calls us to action.”

Passing the Baton

We are currently running our leg of the race. Our mission is to pass the baton, echoing a legacy of faith for those following in our footsteps.

How do we do this? By keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, allowing God to transform us so we can live out His best for our lives (Hebrews 12:1-2). We live and breathe for His glory alone.

Today’s world is desperate to see an “echo of legacy”—faith lived out authentically, regardless of the circumstances. As those in Scripture echoed their legacy, we are compelled to echo ours!
