One Seed, One Savior, One Story
The more I dive into Scripture—which I believe to be the true Word of God—the more I find confirmation of my faith. I especially love reading the Bible chronologically. Seeing the Old Testament prophecies fulfilled through Christ and reading the Bible as a singular story of redemption proves God’s truth and His eternal purpose for the earth.
In Galatians 3, Paul writes to the church in Galatia to remind them that eternal life comes through the work of Jesus, not through adherence to the Law. In verse 16, he writes: “Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.” Paul emphasizes that the scripture does not say “and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but refers specifically to one—who is Christ.
Abraham’s seed passed from generation to generation until it culminated in Jesus. While the promise to Abraham included becoming the father of the nation of Israel, its ultimate fulfillment was found in this single descendant.
In distinguishing between faith in Christ and the works of the Law, Paul reminds us that God promised only one Savior. There is only one way to God, and that is through faith in Christ. This is our story as believers, and it is the story we are called to share.
There is one seed, Jesus, who died for our sins. He alone is the fulfillment of God’s ancient promise to Abraham and the only one who can save us for eternity. This is what we celebrate during this season, and it is what we should celebrate every day of the year.
Lord, help me to stand firm in what You, Jesus, accomplished when You gave Your life on the cross. Give me the strength and the words to tell that story to the world.
