When God Shows Off
How do you pray when life feels overwhelming? Do you ask God to remove the burden—or to give you strength to endure it?
Right now, I’m watching a loved one carry an incredibly heavy load. Several major life events have collided, creating a season filled with uncertainty and pain. Many are praying for this person and the family, myself included. I long for them to be free from these struggles, for healing and peace to come. My prayers often sound like, “Lord, give them strength. Give them wisdom. Give them rest.”
An Episcopalian preacher once said,
Do not pray for easy lives! Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Phillips Brooks
That quote echoes the truth of Philippians 4:13: “I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.” If we only ask for tasks within our power, we’ll never experience the fullness of God’s power. But when we pray for His strength to meet the challenges He allows, we open the door for Him to work in miraculous ways.
I’m seeing that lived out in my loved one’s life. Even in weakness, God is showing up—and showing off—with His strength and grace. This persons’s heart remains willing to be used, even in pain, and God is weaving beauty into the hard places.
Here are just a few glimpses:
- Divine appointments—unexpected spiritual conversations with strangers.
- Gifts turned to ministry—a personal talent becoming a tool to encourage others.
- Long-awaited help—months of waiting replaced overnight by a perfect, God-timed solution.
I’m keeping details private, but every story carries the same message: God is still at work, even when life feels impossible.
Where in your life is God showing off His glory? Or does He feel silent right now? Ask Him to open your eyes to His presence. You may find that the miracle you’re longing for is already unfolding in ways only He could arrange.
