It’s OK To Ask!
I learned another beach lesson today, a perfect follow-up to last week’s post. (If you missed it, check out Intentionally Seeking Intently.)
Honestly, I felt a little silly—even guilty—about constantly asking God to send dolphins my way this year. I wanted to watch them swim and jump! As I wrote last week, He answered one request immediately, but most of the other times, the water seemed empty.
Then I compared that small, trivial request to a much bigger one: asking God to help me dig deeper into His Word, intentionally and intently.
Of course I’d ask for that. It’s a completely honorable prayer. It’s a prayer for truth, for wisdom, and for a deeper relationship.
Last week’s post compared keeping eyes on the water to see dolphins with keeping eyes on scripture to see truth.
So now, whether I’m intently scanning the waves for dolphins or intently searching the Scriptures, it’s okay to keep asking God to bring it. Ask for the visible joy; ask for the eternal truth. Both bring great joy, so ask away! No more guilt when asking for little joyful moments.
My faith in the Lord not dependent on how He answers my prayers. It’s wholly dependent on knowing who He is, trusting what He has done, and believing His Word is truth.
Keep asking God to bring little joys into your life and keep asking Him to bring spiritual insights from His Word. It’s OK to ask! And to keep asking!
The day after I realized it’s okay to keep asking to see dolphin, I saw a pod of them jumping in up out of the water in joy!
