A Candle or a Lighthouse?
Does your light shine like a lighthouse, or more like a candle? Do you use a large platform to share your faith, or do you quietly shine into the life of a neighbor?
Many times while I was serving at LifeWay—a publisher of authors who often spoke on large platforms—women would ask me how to get on that platform. My question back was, “What are you doing now to share Jesus with women?” Their answer often revealed a glimpse of their heart—whether for the Lord or for themselves.
Someone once said, “Don’t expect God to make you a lighthouse somewhere else if you can’t be a candle where you are.” How are you shining your candle today?

Luke tell us to steward whatever the Lord give us.
Whoever is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. Luke 16:10
In Matthew 5, we are reminded to let our light shine—not to spotlight ourselves, but to glorify the Lord. Any “platform” we have to serve Jesus and make Him known, whether big or small, is for His glory alone—not ours.
At this stage of life, which includes retirement, my platform has changed. Still, I’m called to serve Jesus and share my faith.
It may look different than before, but the light has not gone out!
We must look around to see where God has placed us today and who He has placed in our midst. That is where we shine His light. Where He leads us next is His decision. Our part is to listen, obey, and shine.
Lord, help me be faithful wherever You have me right now—in any way You choose to use me.
